A Secure Network Is Also One That Is Managed To A Specific Set Of Standards
By Eric Donn, Director, Sabre IT Ltd
The mind-set required to secure a network is a disciplined security mind-set, comprised of robust principles and standards. Most importantly, nothing is left to chance.
A disciplined mind-set starts with understanding the principles of security, followed by standards to which a secure network needs to be managed, maintained, monitored, and mitigated to honour those principles. Unfortunately, the bulk of IT personnel are too busy making things “easy” and putting everything in the Cloud. They do not understand the principles of security, let alone standards based on those principles.
We hear all too often about systems being breached, followed by the usual flurry of break-fix activity to put a Band-Aid on the breach. It appears that the majority of the industry is still stuck in break-fix mode, preferring to play cyber security ‘Whack-a-Mole’ instead of working to principles and standards, and build better systems based on those.
Sabre IT Works to a Specific Set of Standards
When we get engaged to audit networks that have been breached, we find, almost without exception, a lack of, or failed standards. Yet 99% of security breaches are preventable when systems are set up and managed to a specific set of standards and underpinned by the principles of security.
At Sabre IT, we understand that security is just one of the many aspects of building a reliable and secure network. Security, along with management, maintenance, monitoring, and mitigation are part of the foundation, not an after-thought., We leave nothing to chance, and build secure networks resulting in zero downtime for our clients.
